Growing up, the chess game became his passion in his elementary school  days and started a chess club that followed him to middle school and high school. As a school district volunteer, he began to teach chess at four schools in the lower valley area of El Paso,TX. Out of those schools: Sageland Elementary, Mesa Vista Elementary, Hillcrest Middle School and Bel Air High School, all gain awards and thropies ranking the highest  achievements in local chess tournament events held in the city. After graduation and entering into college there was a need for chess in the community to have a chess tournament director and continue chess in schools. Augustine was being mentor by the previous tournament director who previously dedicated his life to chess in El Paso, TX Mr. Dave Meier, the singing chess director/barbershop quartet man. With the same dedication, Augustine continues to tournament direct USCF rated chess tournaments as well as the local school chess tournaments in the borderland region.
